What Is Las Posadas? 

The Las Posadas is a novenario, which is an extended devotional prayer. This holiday is mostly celebrated in countries such as Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, United States of America, Canada, Cuba, and other parts of Latin America. This holiday is celebrated by the Hispanics every single year from December 16 to December 24. But despite it being celebrated by the Hispanic community, the way they celebrate it is different. For example, Latin American countries celebrate the holiday with a number of changes to the tradition. Other than that, the reason is the same and so is the date of the celebration. 

Las Posadas Traditions

The Las Posadas is a tradition that was brought to Latin America by the Spanish People. It was first adopted in the countries of Mexico and Guatemala. From December 16 of each year, at dusk, families, friends and neighbors dress up as angels and shepherds. Two people then dress up as Mary and Joseph and another person dresses up as the Innkeeper. Then they take part in plays and celebrate with everyone. 

Why Is Las Posadas Celebrated?

Las Posadas is celebrated every single year in Latin America and widely by the Hispanic community because it is a religious festival. Between the days December 16 and 24, the Hispanic community celebrates this day in order to commemorate the journey that Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a safe refuge where Mary could give birth to Baby Jesus.
