Top 10 Richest People in the World (May 2022)

Contents

The world’s billionaires are an exclusive and powerful club. They shape the global economy, politics, and philanthropy.

Forbes puts the number of billionaires in the world at 2,668 in 2022. The wealthiest among them belong to an even more exclusive club and wield even more power. Many of these billionaires are founders of technology giants, with much of their wealth still invested in the companies they started.

They can, however, still borrow against that wealth to avoid selling stock, deferring (or eliminating for heirs) taxes on unrealized capital gains in the process. Multi-billionaires can also take advantage of trusts and other legal structures to minimize taxation and preserve their fortunes for future generations. The 10 richest people in the world are:-

Elon Musk

Elon Musk

Elon Musk is an entrepreneur and business magnate who co-founded PayPal and Tesla Motors. He also founded SpaceX, and is now working on developing the Hyperloop.

Musk was born in South Africa in 1971. He showed an early interest in computers and technology, and at age 12 he created a video game called Blastar. He moved to Canada at age 17 to attend Queen’s University, and then transferred to the University of Pennsylvania two years later. He received bachelor’s degrees in economics and physics.

In 1995, Musk co-founded PayPal, an online payment system that was later acquired by eBay. He also founded SpaceX in 2002, and Tesla Motors in 2003.

In April 2022, Elon Musk plans to take Twitter private in a deal valued at $44 billion. He plans to fund the buyout with $21 billion of his own capital. This deal comes after Musk sold 9.6 million shares of Tesla, valued at roughly $8.5 billion.

This move by Musk is seen as a way to further solidify his control over Tesla. This could be a good thing for Tesla, as it will allow Musk to focus on the long-term vision for the company.
